We have until the end of April to file our PIT returns for 2024. One of the taxpayer's privileges is the ability to write off 1.5% of tax to a selected non governmental organisation. We encourage you to support the charges of the "Adoption of Love" project in this way.
For the third time, we are asking our Donors to consider donating their 1.5% tax to the girls being raised in an orphanage run by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
The St. Francis Home for Girls has been in existence for 30 years, and from the very beginning its financial security was guaranteed by money donated by private donors. For the first 25 years, these funds were mainly from Germany; in the meantime, it was also possible to establish contact with organizations from the United States. What should be emphasized - the facility has never had state or local government support. Suffice it to say that when, as a result of a change in legislation and a turn of fortune, donors from Germany and the United States stopped supporting the orphanage, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus faced a real threat of having to close the house.
However, God has its own plans, and it was at this point, when humanly speaking there was no way out of this dramatic situation, that the paths of our Secretariat for Foreign Missions with those of the St. Francis Home.
The "Adoption of Love" project very quickly stole the hearts of our Benefactors, and after more than two years of its existence, the daily lives of the children of Cochabamba are free of worries about the proverbial tomorrow. The 70 girls living at St. Francis Home call their Benefactors from Poland Padrinos (Spanish for godparents). It is thanks to their love and generosity that all the girls' needs, from shelter, food and clothing to education and health care, are met.
Knowing all this, for what purpose will the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus use the money from the 1.5%? As Sister Anna Kurysz, director of the orphanage in Cochabamba, points out, this is money that allows the sisters to make investments that were either only a dream or are a necessity of the moment, an unexpected expense that requires immediate implementation. Such was the case two years ago, when the money from the 1.5% was used to rebuild the wall of the orphanage, which had cracked to such an extent as a result of the earthquake that the entire building was in danger of collapsing. It was also then possible to dig a well, which gave the orphanage independent access to drinking water. Cochabamba is a city located in the Andes, at an altitude of about 2,600 meters above sea level. It doesn't rain in this region from March to September, and the city then suffers from a water shortage. Authorities can decide, without any warning, to turn off the "taps" for residents even for several days. It is thanks to money from Polish Donors that the specter of unexpected lack of access to water for children has disappeared.
In 2024, relative stability and peace of mind have allowed the Sisters to fulfill a dream that both they and the girls have carried in their hearts for 30 years. With funds from the 1.5%, a sports field will be built, which they posed for even more all-around development of the children (at the date of writing this article, construction work is underway). You can read about the details of this project in an interview with Sister Anna Kurysz.
However, the needs at the St. Francis Home for Girls in Cochabamba are still many. The home, after 30 years of existence, has no central heating. In winter (from May to the end of August), night temperatures can sleep down to 0ᵒC. Along with 70 girls, only three sisters live in the home, and the responsibility for all matters related to the running of the orphanage rests on their shoulders. There are simply no funds to hire tutors and caregivers. It is the older girls and students who support the sisters in their work by taking on a large part of the tasks and responsibilities.
Therefore, this year again we ask you, dear Benefactors, to donate your 1.5% of tax for 2024 to the orphans of Bolivia. In your tax return, all you need to do is provide the KRS number of the Missio Cordis Foundation: 0000794610. On behalf of ourselves, but especially the girls and the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Cochabamba, we thank you for your generosity!
