we have already built so many wells

During my missionary experience in Tanzania, I witnessed just how urgently deep water wells are needed. Of course, in every village there are makeshift wells - shallow pits dug by local residents where water collects. This water is not suitable for drinking, but people use it because they have no other source... Seventy-five percent of all diseases in Tanzania are caused by drinking dirty water. But I believe we can help these people, and that this tragic situation can be improved,
- says Fr. Adam Cytrynowski, MAfr, a missionary in Tanzania.

Donors to our Secretariat have been supporting a well construction project in Tanzania for the past two years. In just a few months, nine wells have been completed and are now in use. Drilling them is expensive, as the water lies deep underground and the drill must often pass through solid rock. Each meter of drilling costs approximately 95 USD. If we're fortunate and water is found at a depth of 100 meters, the total cost is around 40,000 PLN. But if the water is only reached at 180 meters, the cost of one well can rise to a staggering 75,000 PLN.

After numerous discussions with Father Adam Cytrynowski, the missionary in charge of well construction in Tanzania, and local well drilling experts, we decided to purchase all the equipment needed to drill wells independently of outside companies. The required equipment includes two trucks, a drill rig, a compressor, and a drill set. All these machines were valued at one million PLN (approximately 240,000 USD). Two German dioceses have pledged a donation of 100,000 USD for this purpose. The condition for receiving these funds is that we raise at least the same amount ourselves. The Congregation of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) has also committed to help purchase the drilling rigs.

Owning our own machinery will certainly reduce the cost of building each well by 50%. It will also allow us to provide jobs for several local men. We believe that this will be the biggest aid project in the history of our mission office. We entrust all the donors of this project to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, asking the Lord Jesus to grant you all the necessary blessings and graces.
